In The Paddock headed up to Craig Lidster's Yorkshire base recently to find out more about The Good Racing Co. and its work to combine shared racehorse ownership with charitable endeavours.

The Good Racing Co. is a unique fundraising initiative aiming to redefine racing by dedicating horses from its stables to raise funds and awareness for different charitable causes. So far, over £185,000 has been donated by The Good Racing Co.

We caught up with the team to learn more about their two racing clubs – The Rob Burrow Racing Club and The Graham Lee Racing Club.

The Rob Burrow Racing Club is named after ex-Leeds Rhinos Rugby player Rob Burrow and raises funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, the illness which Burrow was diagnosed with in 2019. The club enjoyed its first success when Macarone was guided to victory at Beverley under Paul Hanagan, who is closely involved with the initiative.

Earlier this year, The Good Racing Co. announced a new racing club designed to raise funds for injured jockey Graham Lee. Graham had a terrible accident at Newcastle in November last year resulting in life changing injuries. The Graham Lee Racing Club offers annual membership for just £17.

Members will get to follow the career of two-year-old filly chosen specifically by Paul Hanagan, who is The Good Racing Co.’s Director of Racing. The club’s horse has been named ‘We’ve Got This’ by Graham’s wife, Becky – it has been a promising start so far, with the filly placing in two of her three runs to date.
