Racing Club Edges Closer to 100k Bonus

The ‘owners’ of a horse who began the All-Weather season with a lowly rating of just 50 are edging closer to scooping a £100,000 bonus.

Championships Horse of the Year competition, which is part of their innovative Million Pound Bonus scheme.

One more win or even a placed effort could be enough for the Patrick Morris-trained five-year-old to stay top of the charts and scoop the cash when the competition ends on Good Friday, 18th April.

Even a second place finish would guarantee connections a £75,000 windfall – not bad for a horse who was bought by Morris “for cheap money” out of Tim Easterby’s powerful stable only last summer.

Mark Wilson, whose 100 members have seen Tasever win four times this winter, says: “It’s going to be a tight finish, but hopefully ‘Taz’ can get over the line and reward the hard work that Pat and his team have put in. Wherever he finishes, the horse has done us proud.”

The son of Tasleet, who raced 23 times before finally getting his head in front at Newcastle in November, has recorded form figures of 2117314122322 on the Gosforth Park Tapeta and has one of a maximum of 15 runs left to boost his points tally.

“We knew he had the ability to win a race when we got him but I’d be lying if I said I thought he’d be sat on top of the Horse of the Year standings, running big races and improving his rating to 72,” adds Mark, whose Clear Cut Racing Club is involved in five horses with Merseyside based Morris.

“’Taz’ has given us all such great fun. The highlight was a Saturday evening win at Newcastle earlier in the season when we had 20 members there celebrating one of his wins.

“We only started our partnership with Pat 18 months ago,” he explains. “Our members pay a low-cost yearly subscription and our ethos is to get everyone involved in racing as much as we can. ‘Taz’ has picked up that mantle for us and given everybody a great time.

“Pat, his wife Sharron and son Conor look after our members so well and deserve so much credit for what they’ve achieved with our horse, whatever happens come Easter.”

The Horse of the Year competition pays lucrative bonuses to the most consistent performers in Season 12 of the All-Weather Championships, with £75,000 going to the runner-up and £10,000 to the horse that finishes 20th on the leaderboard.

Runners are awarded five points for a win, four for a second, three for a third and two points and one point respectively for fourth and fifth placed finishes, with the first three runs in each of the five months of the competition counting.
