The Good Racing Co is not your average racing club. It is a unique fundraising initiative aiming to redefine racing by dedicating horses from its stables to raise funds and awareness for different charitable causes. Created by the team behind the hugely successful Burrow Seven, which has raised £100,000 for the MND Association to date, The Good Racing Co aims to have eight horses racing for different causes within a year.
The Good Racing Co wants to redefine racing as an all-inclusive sport that motivates and excites people for many different reasons, especially racing for good causes. Burrow Seven was successful at attracting new audiences to racing, and the ambition is to replicate this with each new horse in the Good Racing Company’s syndicate.
Says The Good Racing Co founder Phil Hawthorne: “We believe that there’s more to winning than coming first and we’re looking towards a future in which everybody wins. With our new racing club, when people buy a membership to a horse in our stable, they can share in making a difference and improving the lives of those in need. This just the start of what we hope will be a growing movement of racing for good because together we can do good on a grand scale – and have fun along the way.”
Trained by Fergal O’Brien Racing, Go Go Chicago is set to raise funds for racing charities Racing Welfare and Racing to School, as profits from membership sales are divided between them. Go Go Chicago is a promising, young bay gelding by the highly successful stallion, Shirocco, who has bred many famous winners including Annie Power (a five-time Group 1 winner), Lac Fontana, Minella Rocco, Third Wind and Silver Hallmark. Over the last nine months, jump horse Go Go Chicago has been trained in Cheltenham by O’Brien who hope he’ll continue to progress through the season.
When people become a member of The Good Racing Co they receive a luxury welcome pack with a metal annual member’s badge and a lapel pin badge to wear with pride at racecourses. The pack also includes a photo of the horse, a car sticker and membership certificate. Additional features include an exclusive online members’ content hub and regular updates about the horse’s development and developments from the charity. Members will also be given the opportunity to enter prize draws throughout the year to visit their horse at the yard and meet with the people that work with and train him every day.
